- Ranks Top 5 in the Transportation & Logistics Sector -
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in commercial transportation and
supply chain management solutions, has been named one of the top green
companies in the U.S. by Newsweek magazine for the second year in
a row.
“Ryder remains committed to implementing industry-leading environmental
practices that reduce risk, drive operational efficiency, and deliver
value to our customers,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Greg
Swienton. “Our approach to operating our business and delivering
solutions to our customers is based on the foundation that business
objectives and environmental goals are not mutually exclusive.”
For example, the solutions Ryder implements for customers such as
preventive maintenance, vehicle technologies to optimize routes and
reduce idling, as well as alternative fuel options and logistics
engineering strategies that optimize distribution networks to reduce
miles, are all part of an overall strategy to improve transportation
efficiencies. These very same activities also reduce emissions and
result in real-world environmental benefits.
In the 2011 Newsweek Green Rankings, Ryder improved its rank in
the Transportation & Logistics sector, moving up from 6th
to 5th place among all companies ranked in the sector. Ryder
also improved its overall position to No. 111 out of 500, up from No.
114 in 2010.
The Newsweek Green Rankings comprehensively assess the
environmental performance of the largest publicly traded companies in
America and around the world. Newsweek collaborated with leading
environmental research providers, Trucost,
and Sustainalytics
to assess each company’s environmental footprint, management of that
footprint, and transparency. Published annually since 2009, this project
is billed as the first effort by a major media organization to rank
companies based on their actual environmental footprint, management of
that footprint, and sustainability communications. For more information
