Ryder Wins Recognition for Fourth Consecutive Year for Helping
Companies Achieve Green Best Practices in Supply Chain Execution
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in supply
chain, warehousing and transportation management solutions, today
announced that for the fourth consecutive year, it has been named an Inbound
Logistics Green Supply Chain Partner. Inbound Logistics
editors have selected 75 companies that demonstrate a deep commitment to
green initiatives and supply chain sustainability for the magazine’s
annual “Green 75” issue.
Ryder engages with customers to help them “green” their supply chains by
focusing on carbon reduction in three critical areas: network design,
facilities and building use, and transportation. By designing a supply
chain network with the reduction of the carbon footprint as a primary
focus, Ryder advises customers on factors such as the location of
distribution centers, miles to be traveled, amount of inventory, and
size and number of facilities included in the network. For the use of
building and facilities, Ryder offers lighting efficiencies,
cutting-edge energy technologies, alternative use of by-products, and
other strategies to reduce waste and carbon emissions. In
transportation, customers are not only able to take advantage of Ryder’s
engineering expertise optimizing shipments, routes, and modes, but can
also tap into Ryder’s alternative fuel vehicles, including natural gas
and hybrid vehicles.
“For companies seeking additional alternatives to meet their carbon
footprint reduction goals, we bring a combination of engineering
expertise, excellence in execution, and cutting-edge vehicle
technologies,” said
John Williford
, President of Global Supply Chain
Solutions. “Our solutions not only optimize the supply chain for cost,
but also specifically address carbon footprint reduction to help
customers move the needle on their sustainability goals.”
Ryder is the leader in alternative fuels for the commercial truck
leasing and rental industry. In 2010, The San Bernardino Associated
Governments (SANBAG) selected Ryder as its fleet partner in a
ground-breaking natural gas project in Southern California – the first
of its kind to deploy natural gas vehicles into a large commercial truck
leasing and rental operation. The project included 202 heavy duty
natural gas vehicles and three strategically located maintenance shops
in Rancho Dominguez, Orange, and Fontana. Since 2010, Ryder has
continued to build on its natural gas vehicle offering by providing
natural gas vehicles in markets such as Tucson, Ariz., and Livonia and
Grand Rapids, Mich. Today more than 250 natural gas-powered heavy duty
tractors have been deployed in fleets across the country, including the
fleets of leading consumer packaged goods, food, and beverage companies.
