MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ryder
System, Inc. (NYSE:R), a leader in commercial
transportation and supply
chain management solutions, today announced that it was named a 2013
Green Supply Chain Award winner by Supply
& Demand Chain Executive (SDCE). The Green Supply
Chain Awards recognize companies making green or sustainability a core
part of their supply chain strategy and working to achieve measurable
sustainability goals within their own operations and/or supply chains.
“At Ryder, we know that a more efficient supply chain, along with better
equipment and load utilization, means a better use of resources, which
translates into lower energy consumption,” said John Williford,
President of Global Supply Chain Solutions, Ryder. “With our warehousing
and transportation experts and a focus on operational execution, we are
able to knit customer supply chains together more tightly, which
ultimately gives our customers more options for greening their supply
chain and fleet network.”
Alternative fuel solutions is one area where Ryder’s impact is evident.
The company is the leader in natural gas vehicle solutions for the
commercial transportation industry, with natural gas capabilities in
California, Arizona, Michigan, Texas, New York, and Louisiana. Ryder
recently achieved a milestone with its 320 natural gas vehicles running
in customer fleets surpassing 15 million miles. Since deploying its
natural gas vehicle program in 2011, Ryder’s operation has replaced
approximately 2.3 million gallons of diesel fuel with domestically
produced natural gas and reduced emissions by more than 5,290 MTCO2e
(metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions). Ryder also
promotes its capability to optimize supply chain networks for maximum
environmental benefits through its Green Challenge. Customers can accept
the Green Challenge at varying levels of intensity – from
changing to a hybrid or alternative-fuel vehicle for transportation
services, to implementing facility retrofits or new distribution network
designs, all of which deliver long-term environmental benefits.
Supply & Demand Chain Executive received almost 100 entries
for the 2013 Green Supply Chain Award. Submissions were judged based on
the clarity and content of the goals and strategy, the extent of the
steps being taken, the impact of the results to date and projected
results, and the form and presentation of the information submitted.
Honored companies are recognized in the areas of Sourcing/Procurement,
Fulfillment/Logistics, Operations, Product Lifecycle Management, and
other areas of the supply chain. The awards also spotlight providers of
supply chain solutions and services, such as Ryder, that assist their
customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.
