MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ryder
System, Inc., (NYSE: R), a leader in commercial
transportation and supply
chain management solutions, was named a 2013 Corporate Champion by
the Women's Forum of New York at the second bi-annual Breakfast of
Corporate Champions held at the New York Stock Exchange. Ryder was
honored among 174 U.S.-based Fortune 500 companies and 31 Fortune 1000
companies for its commitment to the advancement of women on Corporate
Boards, with 27 percent of its board of directors consisting of women.
“Diversity helps to improve the effectiveness of our solutions, which is
critical for our long-term growth and competitiveness,” said Ryder
Chairman and CEO Robert Sanchez. “Ryder benefits from having teams of
diverse, experienced, ethical people, sharing ideas to better serve our
customers and our communities. Women in particular represent an
important and growing segment of our workforce as well as our Board.”
The main program at the event consisted of a panel of CEOs from some of
the largest companies in the United States discussing how companies have
benefitted from greater gender diversity on corporate boards and the
tangible steps that can and should be taken by CEOs and their leadership
teams to support continued progress on this critical issue.
Ryder’s Group Director of Diversity, Inclusion, Engagement, & Culture,
Kirk Imhof and Group Director of Investor Relations, Calene Candela were
among the 300 professionals in attendance, including CEOs, nominating
committee chairs, and directors—the change drivers that can increase the
number of Board seats held by women.
The audience of CEOs was encouraged to nominate board-ready women to the
Women's Forum CEO-Sponsored Database, a national database, accessible
free of charge to Board Nominating Committees and search firms.
