Ryder Helps Global Automaker Reduce Costs and Improve Supply Chain
Visibility
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ryder
System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in commercial
fleet management and supply
chain solutions, announced today it has been selected by Chrysler de
Mexico to manage a cross
dock operation at the Port of Altamira, feeding parts from an
overseas supplier to Chrysler’s manufacturing assembly plant in Mexico.
Ryder is responsible for receiving sea containers from two Italian
consolidation centers, facilitating the customs process and transloading
the shipments into trailers for delivery to the plant. Ryder uses its
engineering expertise to optimize the trailer loads, resulting in
reduced transportation spend for Chrysler. Ryder’s services are
supported by an EDI technology that connects Ryder, Chrysler, and the
supplier. This system enables Ryder to seamlessly share information with
customs brokers, transportation partners, and the Chrysler assembly
plant, improving visibility and ensuring quality, timely delivery.
“We are honored that Chrysler has once again entrusted us with their
business, and appreciate the long-standing and successful relationship
we’ve had with them for more than 10 years,” said Gene Sevilla, Vice
President of Ryder International Supply Chain Solutions. “This latest
operation is another way we are helping Chrysler improve visibility and
drive efficiencies in their supply chain.”
Ryder’s cross
docking solution keeps products moving by synchronizing inbound and
outbound shipping activities so that products flow directly from
receiving to shipping. As a result, customers can reduce both
distribution and transportation costs.
“We are pleased to work again with Ryder as we know the way they operate
and the commitment they have in delivering the best service,” said
Mercedes Figueroa, Head of Logistics and Customs for Chrysler Mexico.
