“The discipline and leadership skills that college athletes demonstrate
translate well into Ryder’s team-oriented business,” said Rich Mohr,
Rental Operations Vice President and Global Product Manager, Ryder. “A
prime example of this is Ryder’s senior executive Tom
Havens, who is featured on the Athlete Network website as an athlete
influencer. After a successful college baseball career and two summers
playing minor league baseball in the Oakland A’s organization, Tom
joined Ryder as a Rental Representative. Over the course of a 25-year
Ryder career, he held positions of increasing responsibility, leading to
his current role as Senior Vice President and Global Chief of Operations
for Ryder’s largest business segment, Fleet Management Solutions.”
Ryder’s Management Training program focuses on developing skills for
early career, high potential employees and positions them for expedited
career growth within the Company’s Rental and FMS operations segments.
Trainees quickly contribute to the top and bottom lines of their
assigned location while gaining valuable insight in the areas of sales,
customer service, operations, and finance. Employees have the
opportunity to explore a variety of internal career options upon
completion of the 18-24 month program, including possible relocation to
a city of their choosing based on business needs.
"It is an honor to continue to grow our partnership with Ryder as they
provide Athlete Network members with opportunities to utilize skills
learned on the field into the business world," said Eli Fisher, Athlete
Network Vice President and Cofounder. "Ryder really believes in the
value of the athlete mindset and consistently places Athlete Network
members in positions to excel."
Ryder is also committed to recruiting veterans as the Company’s military
recruiting program, which was launched seven years ago, continues to
have a positive impact on both the veteran population and the
transportation and logistics industry. Ryder has hired more than 6,300
veterans and increased the percentage of veterans among its U.S.
workforce to more than 10 percent, since joining the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce Hiring Our Heroes program in November 2011.
Additionally, Ryder has a focus on recruiting more women to the
industry, specifically veterans. The Company’s Women Veterans Task
Force, a panel consisting of women in managerial or supervisorial roles
at Ryder who are military veterans, also serves as brand ambassadors and
positive voices in the veteran community. Ryder also donates to the
Women In Trucking (WIT) Foundation, affiliated with the non-profit
organization Women In Trucking Association, Inc., as part of the
Company’s giving strategy to support expertise. The donations are meant
to help educate the next generation of women transportation
professionals by providing student scholarships.
For the past four years, Ryder has been recognized among America’s Best
Employers by Forbes. The Company has also been named for the past
five years as one of Recruit Military’s Most Valuable Employers for
Military, formerly presented by CivilianJobs.com. The award is given to
